According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the magnum opus has raked in the most from the Telugu market, with an estimated collection of Rs 58.5 crore. The Hindi version has brought in Rs 35 crore, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions have minted around Rs 70 lakh and Rs 40 lakh, respectively.
A report by BoxOfficeIndia.com said, “The final overseas numbers are still to come but a Rs 140 crore worldwide day one is there for the film and this number can go to Rs 150 crore when all the collections are rounded up on Saturday.”
Pathaan, which has been the highest earning film so far in 2023, earned Rs 106 crore worldwide on its opening day. The Shah Rukh Khan film went on to earn Rs 1000 crore during its entire run.
The film, based on Ramayana, has received some criticism for its dialogues and visual effects. Prabhas portrays the character of Raghava (Ram), while Kriti plays the role of Janaki (Sita) with Saif playing Lankesh (Ravan). Helmed by Om Raut, the film is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage are also a part of the film.
Indianexpress.com film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film 2.5 stars. A part of the review read, “This version of the Ramayan is not interested in connecting with the feeling of genuine religiosity that any reading of the ‘granth’ arouses, whether it is the most popular Tulsidas version or the Valmiki version
